learning. Boynton Hall is

campus of the Worcester
County Free Institute of
Industrial Science

Ichabod Washburn
funds the Washburn
Shops.

Theory and Practice are
embedded in the stones
of WPI's Two Towers:
Boynton Hall and
Washburn Shops.

Students of the frst
graduating class (1871)
founded the Alumni
Association.

Stephen Salisbury III
funds the construction of
Salisbury Laboratories, in
memory of his father, who
donated most of the land
that WPI occupies today.

One of its frst
international students,
Japanese-born Gompei
Kuwada accepts the job
of goatkeeper for the
school's mascot. The
current goat mascot is
affectionately called
Gompei in his honor.

A new gymnasium,
realized largely through
the enthusiasm and
support of alumni, is
dedicated.
